What is Legal typing?

So, What is Legal Typing?

When we think of legal typing, we immediately think of audio typing or transcription. This is the process of converting digital dictation recordings recorded by solicitors, barristers, paralegals, legal executives and their practice staff from speech into text by a legal transcriptionist, legal typist or legal secretary who then transcribes the text into digital legal documents. These digital documents include (to name a few):

Our legal typing team know to set out documents in civil proceedings. They are aware that the layout is stipulated by law, under part 5 of the CPR and that this appears in the "white book".  They also know when writing a letter to an incarcerated prisoner at His Majesty's pleasure, what rule a Solicitor's letter would be sent under. If they don't then, your work is not being carried out by trained or experienced legal typists.

This is why legal typing work should be typed by experienced and trained legal typists, transcriptionists or secretaries.  This is because they know how documents should be set out. They will also know Latin terminology and legal jargon. 

 

Unfortunately, there are many transcription companies in the market, that conduct work for many different sectors, where legal work is often farmed out randomly to huge banks of typists (where most have never worked in the legal profession).  This results in poor-quality legal transcription.

Record your legal dictation files

Record your audio digital dictation files via our OutSec Speak app and send the dictation files securely to us. Alternatively, if you use a digital dictaphone, you can upload your digital dictation files via our secure website. You will receive a notification that the file has been uploaded and sent for transcription using our typing service. OutSec Legal can also accept files from Bighand, Dictamen, ODMS & Speechwrite and many other digital dictation recorders & software platforms.

Your legal typing is undertaken by legal typists or legal secretaries

Your received files will be allocated to one of your two designated legal typists or legal secretaries who will type, edit and format your legal documents as per your instructions on your audio dictation file. Our legal typists can type your legal correspondence and documents directly into case management systems such as Actionstep, Visualfiles, Ochresoft, Intelliworks and many, many more.

Receive your legal transcripts

Once your dictation file has been typed by your legal typist or legal secretary, you will receive a notification that your completed work is ready for collection.
